Starting On February 3, The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train Will Implement Dynamic Ticket Pricing

The premium economy class price for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail brand, "Whoosh," would range from Rp150,000 to Rp250,000 under this new plan.

Gapteks.com - The high-speed rail ticket pricing between Jakarta and Bandung will be dynamic as of February 3, 2024. At Rp150,000, the home ticket price has been determined by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China (KCIC). The premium economy class price for the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail brand, "Whoosh," would range from Rp150,000 to Rp250,000 under this new plan.

The dynamic pricing system will allow ticket prices to fluctuate based on factors such as demand and time of booking. This new pricing strategy aims to provide more flexibility and options for passengers traveling between Jakarta and Bandung.

Passengers may purchase Whoosh tickets at a more affordable price while traveling during specific periods thanks to the adoption of this dynamic pricing structure, according to KCIC General Manager and Corporate Secretary Eva Chairunisa.

The implementation of the dynamic pricing system also aims to optimize the utilization of high-speed rail and ensure a more efficient allocation of resources. This strategy will help manage passenger flow and reduce overcrowding during peak travel times, ultimately improving the overall travel experience for passengers.

"Under this new plan, there might be multiple Whoosh trip rates in a single day," stated Eva in a statement that was cited on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Eva disclosed that a number of variables, such as weekdays against weekends, high season versus low season, and peak versus off-peak hours, affect the calculation of dynamic pricing.

By implementing dynamic pricing, high-speed rail can adjust ticket prices based on demand and availability. This will not only incentivize passengers to travel during off-peak hours but also generate additional revenue for the rail company. Additionally, the use of advanced technology and data analysis can help predict passenger flow patterns and optimize train schedules to further enhance efficiency and reduce overcrowding.

He indicated that there would be an increase in costs during rush or peak hours. On the other side, the rates will be cheaper during off-peak or flexible hours. According to Eva, travelers are offered travel alternatives at different price points based on their requirements, preferences, and financial situation. Eva stated that in order to ensure that dynamic pricing meets passenger demands and supports Whoosh operations, it would be continuously reviewed and assessed.

Eva also mentioned that the dynamic pricing strategy would take into account factors such as demand, availability of seats, and historical data to determine the most optimal prices for different time slots. This approach aims to strike a balance between maximizing revenue and providing affordable options for passengers, ultimately improving the overall experience for all travelers.

"Passengers will receive additional value from dynamic pricing. Price flexibility is anticipated to benefit the community more, he stated.

By January 27, 2024, around 1.4 million people had traveled from Jakarta to Bandung and back using the Whoosh service. The range of 60 to 80 percent represents average occupancy rates. The highest number of passengers per day (21,000) was seen in November 2023 and during the December 2023–January 2024 Christmas travel season.

"This shows that public interest in the first high-speed train transportation in Southeast Asia is still well maintained," he stated.
